All Star Les Miserables – A magical experience
In 1862 the French author Victor Hugo wrote a novel. In 1980 it appeared in a French theatre and caused a stir for a few short months before the venue booking came to an end. By 1985 it had been adapted into a stage musical by Cameron Macintosh, and it has been on at the Queens theatre in the West End ever since. It's the world's second longest-running musical, and now it's being refreshed for a few short weeks, starring some of the nation's best-loved singers and on stage at the Gielgud theatre, next door to the home of the original, the Queens.
What a treat! All Star Les Mis plays for a strictly limited 16 week season. It stars Michael Ball as Javert, Alfie Boe plays Jean Valjean, Carrie Hope Fletcher plays Fantine, Matt Lucas is Thénardier and Katy Secombe is Madame Thénardier. The well-loved story is the same, a plot that had inspired a whopping seventy million people by the end of 2017 alone. The show tunes are the same, including the spectacular I Dreamed A Dream, Bring Him Home, One Day More and On My Own. And it's set to inspire an entirely new generation of Les Mis fans-to-be as well as plenty of returners who loved the original and want to experience it all over again. Heavenly!
