Oliver!

Oliver! Is back in town, with a West End transfer that delivers thrills in so many ways. First, the cast. We have Simon Lipkin (Guys and Dolls, Avenue Q) as Fagin, Shanay Holmes (Miss Saigon, The Bodyguard) as Nancy, Aaron Sidwell (Henry VI, Wicked) as Bill Sikes, Billy Jenkins (Les Misérables, BBC's Dodger) as the Artful Dodger and Philip Franks (The Rocky Horror Show, Witness for the Prosecution) as Mr Brownlow. There’s an impressive creative team behind this latest revival in a string of long-runs going right back to 1960, when Lionel Bart first wrote the book, songs and lyrics.

The plot follows young orphaned Oliver, who flees a brutal workhouse to find a new home in sleazy underground London with the entrepreneurial Fagin and his gang of child pickpockets, kind hearted Nancy, and of course the Artful Dodger. Although the story is almost two centuries old, it’s still powerful stuff. And the show tunes are magical. It’s directed and choreographed by Matthew Bourne and co-directed by Jean-Pierre Van Der Spuy, with a new take on the sets from the legendary Lez Brotherston, who recreates Victorian London ingeniously and atmospherically. A real festive treat!

A good revival !
'a whopping great hit' from Chichester directed by Matthew Bourne has transferred well to the West End. Whilst not a fan of Matthew Bourne's adaptions, in this case he went OTT on Fagan's character, it was a good show with all the original tv adaption story and songs. My only disappointment was the sound system was too loud and with exception of the soloists, the songs were 'shouted' rather than 'sung' and thus lost the tunefulmess.

Must see
A magical night out the standing ovation at the end says it all

Fabulous, top quality in all aspects
Quite a dark interpretation but true to Dickens’ intentions I would guess.

Amazing show
Great feel good factor, superb singing, dancing and scenery. My only dislike is the number of stairs to go up . Not particularly good for disabled people .

Brilliant show
It was Amazing loved the show from start to finish. Fantastic but do not choose seats in the Grand Circle row H or J you cannot see the top of the stage, it was the only disappointment.

Great Musical
The show was great as a family outing ... Super costumes and acting ...the biggest issue was getting everyone to London on time with multiple delays on train lines we almost missed it despite leaving loads of time.

Fantastic and emotional
Must see show. Great staging and scene setting. Nancys singing was a highlight . Bit surprised by the actors voice playing Bill Sykes . Didn’t have the impact my group thought it needed , or expected, so didn’t create the menace or fear that the part was trying to portray . Maybe it was different down in the stalls ! Go and see it , especially if you are a fan of the films .

Fantastic show greatly talented cast and nice theater too.
Loved this show cast all so talented! Fagin and Dodger were superb but whole ensemble (from all main characters & all back up performers made this a show not to be missed). From our point of view the 1st three rows of the stalls seemed too close to the stage and people had to look up all the time.If they were the only seats left it would still be worth booking as show is brilliant
