Juno and the Paycock
Looking for something poignant and hilarious? Try Juno and the Paycock, Sean O’Casey’s beloved 1924 classic. This big-hearted, black-humoured, tragi-comedy explores a mother’s resilience in the face of life’s most trying moments and has a couple of superstar actors at the helm. Mark Rylance, who plays Jack, has been nominated many times and has won many awards including Tonys and BAFTAs. At the 88th Academy Awards he won Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of Rudolf Abel in Bridge of Spies. He’s one of eight actors to win the Tony Award for Best Actor in a Play twice and one of six to enjoy nominations for two acting categories in the same year.
No wonder this extraordinary revival of O’Casey’s poetic drama is tipped to be the most-talked about production of the West End’s autumn season. Rylance is joined by J Smith-Cameron who has spent most of her career on stage, making her Broadway debut in 1982’s Crimes of the Heart. She won a Tony nomination for Best Featured Actress in a Play for Our Country's Good in 1989 and was also nominated for the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Actress in a Play for Seán O'Casey's Juno and the Paycock in 2014. This is her UK debut.

A story of humour and sadness The story is one of humour which descends into a black humour & sadness. Although it is set over 100 years ago it still resonates with the modern Ireland of today.i really enjoyed the show and my only criticism relates to a couple of the actors who didnt quite get the Irish accent right.

we admire Mark Rylance great play; great acting; the narrow seats in the stalls spoil the enjoyment;

Must See I liked the historical content. Very thought provoking. Had meaningful messages. Thought the acting was very good especially Mark Rylance. Always
enjoy seeing anything he is in. Couldn't always pick out all the words, partly due to the irish accents and especially on the few occasions actors had their backs to the audience or the actors who were more quietly spoken but then we did book seats in the Grand Circle to save money knowing we have a hearing problem so probably our fault.

Excellent Production Mark Rylance is such a brilliant stage actor and he excels once again in this revival of Juno And The Paycock. Supported by a fine cast including J Smith-Cameron, Ingrid Craigie and a wonderful performance from Chris Walley the play takes on new life. By turns hilariously funny and poignant and heartbreaking this production hits hard and takes the audience through a whole variety of emotions.
This is a highly entertaining and enjoyable experience - one not to be missed.
